Information stored by the extension

When you save a note, YouTube Notes stores the note through chrome.storage.local. A saved note may include:

• the note text you entered;
• the YouTube video ID;
• the video title;
• the video URL;
• the playback timestamp;
• a locally generated note identifier; and
• creation and update times.

The extension also stores a local preference indicating whether the notes panel is minimized.

How the information is used

This information is used only to provide timestamped note creation, display, editing, deletion, searching, copying, exporting, timestamp navigation, and panel preference behavior.

The extension accesses pages under https://www.youtube.com/* only to provide these features. It reads the current video context and playback time, displays the notes panel, and seeks the player when you select a timestamp.

Local processing and transmission

Note content and associated video information are not transmitted to a developer-controlled server. The extension does not have an account system, analytics, advertising tracking, telemetry, or remote AI processing.

Markdown and plain-text exports are generated locally on your device. Clipboard copying also happens locally when you select the Copy control.

Data sharing and sale

YouTube Notes does not sell user data. The extension does not send note content to advertisers, analytics providers, or a developer-operated service.

Retention and deletion

Notes remain in Chrome’s local extension storage until you delete them, clear the extension’s browser data, or uninstall the extension. Depending on Chrome behavior and your settings, uninstalling the extension may remove its locally stored data. Export notes you need to retain before uninstalling or clearing browser data.

Third-party services

YouTube Notes operates on YouTube pages, but it does not use a developer service to transmit your notes to YouTube. Your use of YouTube remains subject to Google’s and YouTube’s own terms and privacy policies.

Policy changes

If the extension’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before the affected version is distributed.
