Data handled by Clipboard History
The extension may process and store the following information:
- Copied text captured from supported webpages.
- Source metadata, including the webpage title and URL available when the text is copied.
- Saved snippets created by the user.
- Extension settings, including capture state, history limit, sorting preference, and copy preferences.
- Excluded website domains chosen by the user to prevent capture on those sites.
Local storage only
Clipboard history, source metadata, snippets, settings, and excluded domains are stored in Chrome's local extension storage on the user's device. Clipboard History does not provide cloud synchronization or remote storage.
The extension does not transmit, sell, share, or remotely process clipboard contents or other extension data. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising, telemetry, tracking, external APIs, or external servers, and it makes no network requests.
Webpage capture and source information
Clipboard History observes copy events only on webpages where Chrome permits its content script to run. When text is copied, the extension may save the page title and URL with the clipboard entry so the user can identify its source. The extension does not monitor the system clipboard globally.
When the popup is opened, Clipboard History may read the active HTTP(S) tab's domain to offer the Exclude current site action. That domain is processed locally and is stored only if the user chooses to exclude it.
Local backup and restore
Export creates a JSON backup locally through the browser's download interface. Import reads only a file selected by the user, validates it locally, and does not apply its contents until the user confirms Merge or Replace. Clipboard History does not upload backup files or their contents.
Deleting data
Users can delete individual clipboard entries and snippets, delete explicitly selected history entries, or clear all unpinned history from the popup. Pinned entries are protected from automatic trimming and Clear History, but users can delete them explicitly.
A confirmed Replace import replaces local history, settings, and snippets. Removing Clipboard History also removes its local extension storage according to Chrome's normal extension-uninstall behavior.
No selling or third-party sharing
Clipboard History does not sell user data, share it with third parties, use it for advertising, or use it for purposes unrelated to its local clipboard-history functionality.
